In addition to an encore showing of the sports documentary, Home of Raleigh, that traces the roots of Seattle Mariners' catcher Cal Raleigh back to his father’s hometown, comes two new films premiering in theaters this Fall: BOY WONDER: The Luc Gates Story and 2002: A Vermont Hockey Odyssey. Both movies are follow-up features from filmmaker Michael LaRocque who last year showcased the Raleigh doc on both the East and West coasts.
After the premieres of the new films this coming November, Aha Sports intends to tour the pictures in limited release before later releasing the movies for streaming in 2026.
Before 2002, there had not been an official state sanctioned hockey championship for high school girls in Vermont. Despite the green mountain state serving as a cornerstone for hockey country in the northeast, it would take a team from a storied local school to overcome numerous obstacles on and off the ice to inevitably change the landscape of sports and for future generations of female athletes.
The story of Luc Gates, a gifted high school athlete whose legacy grew exponentially after his passing. BOY WONDER is another tale about an athlete's brief but impactful life, and the lasting influence his foundation and scholarship in his name has had.
All three movies will screen as part of the inaugural Sport Film Series at the Welden Theatre on November 17th, 18th and 19th. The Film Series supported by Chevy and Toyota and presented by Handy Cars, and the Peoples Trust Company.
